Fundamental MTB Skills

Great for learning how to be balanced and stable riding on the trails.

We work on body position and maintaining stability when the terrain changes.

Learn basic riding techniques to build your confidence and to develop more advanced skills.

We review the fundamentals at all new lessons- they are key to advancing your skills.

Wheel Lifts

(Basic and Advanced)

Basic Wheel Lifts: Learning how to intentionally and successfully lift your wheels up and over roots, logs, rocks, and other features you may encounter on trail.

Advanced Wheel Lifts: Learning how to lift your wheels higher and longer-needed for skills like manuals, wheelies, and bunny hops.

Riding Steeper Terrain and Roll Downs

Great for developing confidence on more technical terrain!

We discuss line choice, body position, proper braking, and controlling the bike on steep and often uneven terrain.

Roll Downs: Riding small drops or ledges that can be rolled down without lifting the front wheel into the air

Cornering and Slow Tight Turns

Intro to cornering: Lessons that will help you feel less awkward as you navigate through corners, so you can learn to add speed and finesse.

Slow tight turns: Switchbacks and tight turns are often tough and we break down the skills (line choice and body position) to get you around them confidently and safely!

Advanced cornering: We will expand on Intro to cornering skills to build confidence in a variety of turns like flat, banked/berms, and switchbacks while we work to increase your speed, and/or confidence.

Get Your Flow On

Great for learning how to maximize your riding by conserving energy, pumping, choosing efficient lines, navigating drops, jumps, and being able to drive the bike. It’s time to feel more playful on the bike!

Step-Downs/Drops

Step-Downs: A type of jump where the landing is lower than the take-off

Drops: Learning how to progress to larger, non-rollable drops by catching some controlled air and landing safely.

Bunny Flops/Hops and Jumps

Bunny Flops/Hops: A dynamic wheel lift and weight shift needed for jumping over obstacles.

Jumps: Learn to catch some controlled air and land safely!

*Note: Without exception, all jumping lessons will include an evaluation to determine if riders fundamental and wheel lift techniques are truly ready for air. If not, we will address the gaps in technique before we teach jumping.

Riding Indoors and Facing Fears

Cleveland, Ohio is home to Ray’s Indoor MTB park, a great place to work on skills during the winter.

Have you wanted to check out Ray’s, but are intimidated by the park? We were too, until someone showed us around and helped us learn the ropes. We offer lessons, clinics, and guided rides at Ray’s to help to take the fear out of riding indoors!

Admission to the park is included with your lesson!

Get Skills- in a few hours I was a lot more comfortable on the descents at East Rim and controlled the bike far better at Whisky rebellion (position and weight distribution)
