Arrowhead MTB Festival

Join us for a weekend of fun on bikes!

Over the two days, we will have skills clinics, guided rides, and of course, a burning bike. Our friends from Ride Inspired Coaching, based in Northeastern Ohio, will be coming down and heading up the skills clinics. Catherine Neff, Ride Inspired Coaching founder, has been using mountain biking to build confidence, overcome fears and foster a sense of adventure in her riders for the last 5 years.

Also joining us from Ride Inspired Coaching will be Shanta Harsa! When Shanta began coaching she noticed the impact solid foundational skills can have on your riding at any level. Although Shanta was already an experienced rider, she found that honing foundational skills and learning new skills directly correlated to having more fun on her bike! Your coaches will pass on their decades of riding experience in simple and practical ways to bring your riding to the next level!

Lunch will be provided for all participating in the skills clinics, in addition to free field camping or a $10 discount on an upgraded site!

Copper Harbor Women's Weekend

A weekend of learning, camaraderie, and above all else, FUN!  The Copper Harbor Women's Weekend clinic brings together fantastic coaches and eager riders for one of the premier women's clinics in the Midwest.  Not only do you get to ride the awesome trails in and around Copper Harbor, you get to do so with some seriously high-powered professional coaching talent. Lead coach Lindsey Richter of the Liv Ladies Allride MTB Clinic Series will once again be joining us in 2019 to show us how it's done in a women-focused learning environment.  No jocks, hotshots, show-offs, or mansplainers here!  Just women teaching women how it's done, one incredible weekend at a time.

The Copper Harbor Women's Weekend clinic is open to women of all shapes, sizes, colors, faith, background, orientation, age (over 21), or skill level. If you identify yourself as a woman mountain bike rider, this clinic is for you!  From those just getting started in the sport to folks who have been riding for years and need to work on a particular technique, our coaches will be able to take your riding to the next level.  Participants will be assigned coaches depending on their skill level and interests.  Some groups will focus on the basics to ensure you can get up and down the trail safely and efficiently, while others will take on tougher obstacles that only Copper Harbor can offer.  Throughout the weekend, everyone will get confidence building how-to's from coaches who have been in your shoes and experienced the same challenges we all face on the trail.  Later in the weekend you'll have the chance to choose a special activity to focus on, including tackling the expert-level Red Trail or going for a scenic ride out on the Keweenaw Point Trail.

What kind of bike should you bring? The bike you're most comfortable with! Just about any decent bike with front suspension from the past several years will be more than enough to take on the vast majority of the Copper Harbor trails. Yes, that means your hardtail will do just fine. Full suspension bikes are a bonus but not required - don't feel like you have to upgrade to attend. Helmets are a must!  Pads are optional but never hurt if you've got 'em.  If you are deciding on pedals, go flat as this will help advance your skills faster.

Watch the weather and be prepared: we ride rain or shine. The Copper Harbor Trails don't shut down when it rains and neither will we. A little mud never hurt anyone!  You may also want to bring your yoga mat as Johanna Davis from Spirit of the North Wellness will be leading a morning session or two for us.

Our homebase for the weekend this year will be the Lake Fanny Hooe Resort & Campground. Morning and evening activities will take place at their clubhouse, and as an added benefit they are giving a discount to clinic participants!  The new owners are bike friendly and their location is about as close to the action as you'll find anywhere. Consider staying here when you look for lodging during our clinic weekend.

REFUND POLICY: If you need to cancel for ANY reason, we will refund your registration fee based on the following schedule.  We will happily help transfer your registration to another participant if you have someone in mind, otherwise we will open your spot up to the next person on the waiting list.

  • Before June 30: Full refund MINUS a $50 processing fee

  • Between July 1 and July 14: 50% of registration fee refunded - $50 processing fee

  • NO refunds after July 14. Transfers only.

Clinic-related questions can be sent to Mandy Kramer at ajscott7@gmail.com

Registration questions can be sent to Nathan Miller at nathan@copperharbortrails.org

Registration for the 2019 event filled up in SIX MINUTES! We told ya'll it'd be fast! Sign up for the waitlist because you never know when your luck will turn.

Fee for the weekend of events is $310 which includes 2.5 days of skills, drills, and on-trail learning; shuttles from Keweenaw Adventure Company; lunches on Saturday and Sunday from the Mariner and Pines; coffee and sweets on Sunday morning from Jamsen's; evening education sessions on Friday and social on Saturday; CHWW tank top or t-shirt (your choice!); swag toss; and priceless memories with new and old friends.  See the 2018 Participant Guide below for an example schedule of events (will be updated in the spring with 2019's schedule).

Sundance MTB Checklist

What should I bring to camp:

Dress for the weather, check the forecast! Be prepared!

We will inspire you rain or shine! Even if it is raining we can still teach you how to rip the trails!

Think of this like any long weekend camping trip! What do you usually bring?

Please review and "arrive prepared" to ride with this checklist:

  • Swimsuit

  • Lunch is included Qdoba! Please bring Breakfast and dinner!

  • An opened and positive mind!? This is your passion, LIVE IT!? A smile and a positive attitude makes learning the skills easier plus, your friends will thank you!

  • Make sure that you eat a hearty breakfast or lunch before you arrive!

  • If you have any medical concerns, please make us aware so that the clinic will run smoothly for you.

  • Bring an extra set of clothes for after your rides and for comfort before our evening sessions.

  • Check the weather prior to your clinic. Pack for all potential weather: Rain jackets, extra clothes to change into if you get chilly or too hot!

  • If you are leaving your bike on the back or on top of your car, it’s always a clever idea to bring a lock.

  • Gloves – for comfort, prevent sores from practice, provide better grip on the bars and protection.

  • Shirts, socks, shorts and jerseys that have moisture wicking material. (Avoid cotton or jeans)

  • Padded cycling shorts. ?(If you do not have a pair, please consider getting some… you’ll thank us later. (Avoid pants that can get stuck in your chain ring.)

  • Shammy Cream - prevents the uncomfortable rubbing and chafing that most cyclists experience when sitting on their saddle.

  • Hydration Pack filled with water or cycling water bottles that fit into your water bottle cage and don't rattle out. Please fill these up before you arrive.

  • Bring plenty of snacks, food and water– Protein energy bars, PB&J sandwiches, gels, cookies or chews.? You should ride with a well-stocked pack in case you get hangry!!

  • Sunscreen, lip balm, mosquito spray and of course, Aveda moisturizer!

  • Eye protection/sunglasses (Avoid wire rimmed glasses)

  • A spare tube that fits your bike’s tire and multi tools. Our coaches will be carrying these items as well.?

  • Armor-Not mandatory but a great idea: Wear protective armor on legs and arms. Shin pads are important for this course just in case you slip off a pedal and it ‘bites’ you in the shin. (G-Form brand is my favorite!)

  • If you like yoga and stretching, bring your mat! (We will have 30 purple and green mats; first come first serve!)

  • Tire Pressure and Shock Pressure: Have your tires and shocks at the correct pressure for trail riding- we will be cover this during our clinic and help dial you in!? Yay!

  • Helmets are mandatory: A mountain bike helmet or full-face helmet (what you prefer) that fits you properly, one finger on the strap and make sure it is not damaged.

If you have wrecked your bike with that helmet, we advise a new helmet. (You can check this by turning the helmet over and pull helmet’s edges slightly – LOOK for small cracks in the foam or bring it to a professional bike shop for assistance.)

We require a full face downhill helmet and body armor for advanced skills for example like: high speed downhill, drops and jumps.

  • Pedals-Shoes:?Please bring pedals that you are comfortable on! It’s very important that your pedals and shoes work together when you arrive at the clinic. I highly recommend Flat Pedals! This will allow a better upstanding of using your feet more for pressure control & connection.

Flat Pedals require flat shoes without cleats (such as skate shoes or a brand like 510 or Bontrager Flatline MTB shoes).

Note: Running shoes with tons of traction and lots of cushioning are not suggested.

Note: Tuck away shoe laces so they don't get caught in the chain ring.

If you have questions, please contact us?a week before?the clinic.?

Note: Bring a pair of flat pedals makes it easier to learn and practice new skills. If you love clipless pedals, you can always try the morning session on flats pedals and then switch to clipless for our afternoon session.

Clipless pedals that require a mountain bike shoe with cleats. (Check cleats for unwanted wear and tighten screws)

  • Note: Do not use road pedals, road bike shoes or cages.

  • The best bike to bring to the clinic: A well-tuned cross-country or Enduro mountain bike or “fat tire bike” that fits you. Both full suspension and hard tails work fine.

Dropper seat post are ideal, but not mandatory.

A quick release or dropper seat post is helpful, so you can easily lower and raise your saddle when learning new skills and riding technical terrain. If you don't have a quick release seat post, please carry a multi-tool so you can lower/raise your seat throughout the clinic.?

  • A week, before your clinic, we recommend a final tune-up for your bike from a certified mechanic. (Note: Make sure tires aren’t flat, chain isn’t rusted, gears shift properly, and brakes are working!) This will make your experience more enjoyable!

  • You can’t decide which bike to bring - If you have 2 bikes, feel free to bring both, or think about which bike would best suit the skills you wish to practice or acquire. (Bring locks to protect your bikes)

  • Not suitable for mountain bike clinics: A Hybrid, Townie, downhill, Trials bike, BMX, road or cross bikes.

Ladies AllRide- Bentonville, Arkansas

Join Shanta and the Ladies AllRide crew in Bentonville, AR - Northwest Arkansas is a premier up and coming mountain biking destination in the country right now. Why? Because the community and the local Walton Family Foundation take mountain biking seriously so they hired the best trail builders in the business to design an epic trail system within city limits with paved bike paths leading to every trailhead. The result, a plethora of different trails to match any level of experience including some of the most competitive trails in the U.S. As if all this wasn't enough, the lower altitude allows enthusiasts to ride almost year-round.

This clinic will be hosted at Slaughter Pen recreation area where we will spend the morning using the natural terrain and obstacles to learn lots of awesome skills. In the afternoons we'll hop on the nearby trail system which incorporates progressive features, but also provides alternatives for riders of all levels. There's something for everyone and lots of opportunities to practice with special features including log rides, drops, jumps and a free ride area with table top jumps, bermed turns, and a wall ride.
