Catherine, founder

Catherine, from Stow, Ohio has been an athlete for over 20 years and started actively riding and racing mountain bikes, cyclocross and road 5 years ago. After spending much of her late high school and college years obese, she decided to take up running and weightlifting. This lead her to meeting a personal trainer who introduced her to competitive cycling. She quickly became hooked on riding and racing and hasn’t looked back since.

Catherine coaches private lessons and clinics for women, men, and youth, organizes and leads clinics and rides for the Cleveland Area Mountain Bike Association (CAMBA-local IMBA Chapter), and began coaching at Rays Indoor Bike Park in 2016. She has also volunteered/assisted with Ladies AllRide. In the summer of 2018, Catherine founded CAMBA Juniors, a youth developmental MTB club and race team. In addition to teaching, she currently races for CAMBA in the pro/expert class in the local mtb series.

Catherine holds skills instructor certifications through BICP (Level 2) and PMBIA (Level 1) and has developed a love of introducing new riders, especially women and youth, to mountain biking and helping experienced riders to hone in their skill. As a coach, her passion is rooted deeply in helping riders to find confidence, overcome fears, and develop a love of adventure. She loves helping riders turn an “I can’t”  into “I just did it” though guiding, coaching, and encouraging. Catherine has done extensive coursework outside the cycling world in education and teaching. She is currently pursuing personal training certification to further her ability to help riders reach their goals. When not on a bike, you can find her lifting at the gym, teaching piano lessons, running, or out exploring nature.

Shanta has been an avid mountain biker since 1993. After riding for 20+ years, she attended a mountain bike skills clinic. Shanta was amazed to find that there were foundational skills which are fundamental to being balanced and stable on a bike. She also discovered that learning these core skills were not only for inexperienced riders, but were necessary to progress intermediate and advanced riders to higher level skills. Although Shanta was already an experienced rider, she found that learning new skills directly correlated to having more fun on the bike! #moreskillsmorefun

In 2016, Shanta was recruited by Ray Petro to join the staff at Ray’s Indoor Bike Park in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition to coaching private lessons and clinics for men, women, and youth, Shanta leads clinics for the Cleveland Area Mountain Bike Association. In 2018, she was brought on as a coach for Ladies Allride where she travels the country teaching women skills to help them conquer their fears and build self-esteem by giving them the tools needed to overcome challenges on the trail.

Shanta is Level 2 certified through the Bike Instructor Certification Program (BICP) and holds a Level 1 certification through the Professional Mountain Bike Instructor Association (PMBIA). Shanta also works as a professional bicycle mechanic and teaches bicycle maintenance classes.
